Trendy, Fashionable Travel Threads Outweigh Slum Garbs

Memorial Day weekend is here.  And in my mind, this officially kicks off summer travel!  In a previous Facebook post, I included pictures of jetsetters from back in the day who truly defined what it meant to travel in style and hit the runway!  Over the past several years, I’ve witnessed a number of people who think it is okay to check-in wearing a silk bonnet and pajama pants.  It doesn’t matter if you have a 6:00 a.m. flight to Buenos Aires or a red-eye to Los Angeles, there are certain garbs that should not make it past the first gate.  Here are some trendy, yet casual, threads to help upgrade and refine your travel fashion sense, while maintaining style and comfort.

Loose, Colorful Jumpsuits...Simply LOVE!

  Maxi Dresses...A Staple Piece!

Opt for jewelry consisting of feathers, rope, and leather to prevent security scans

Flaunt sunglasses with a slight tint to prevent suspicion and viewing incapabilities.  But one must stay fly at all times!

Avoid stilettos, strappy sandals, and flip flops.  Opt for a cute loafer.  Comfort, style, and easy movement are key!

Wear supportive undergarments to ensure that your clothing lies smoothly

"Step Out The Box" Women's Conference 2013 - Ignite. Inspire. Prosper

Ignite.  Inspire.  Prosper.  Those three words defined the Step Out the Box Women’s Conference 2013 on Saturday, May 11th.  The conference evolved from one woman’s desire to organize an event to inspire women, to where she shared her idea with some positive “sister friends” that expressed their passion for the same goal.  These three women – Hennither Bianca Cole, Erika Akwo, and Zainabu Kamara – strapped themselves with confidence and motivation to organize an event that left people in tears, with hope, and encouragement!
The Step Out the Box Women’s Conference featured some of the DMV’s most powerful and inspiring motivational speakers – Rich and Erika Akwo (All Is Well – Inspire), Zainabu Kamara (financial advisor), Hennither Bianca Cole, conference mistress of ceremony (Career Image Solutions), and Devonna J. Petree (Tyunins Breakthrough) – whose mission was to simply do one thing: set forth a positive message to help encourage people to live their dreams and break barriers.  Whether one’s dream is to relieve themselves’ from financial debt or find the motivation to take the first step towards a transformation, this conference met its goal by bringing forth personal testimonies and offering productive advice on how to “live” one’s dream.

Rich Akwo (All Is Well - Inspire), Michael Martin (talk radio), and David Marcus (author, Ouch! This May Hurt)
To support the conference’s mission, a number of local vendors, whose companies were formed by stepping out on faith, were available to sell and promote their products.  A few included Icia Ragsdale, author of Letters 4 You, Tammira Lucas of Ryann’s Closet (children’s boutique accessories), haute leather jewelry designer, Qwishuna Smith of Lobe Dangle, Essential Treasures (unique jewelry for special occasions), and, of course, Destinations Reached Travel Consulting and Services, whose vision is built partially on promoting good health through peace and unforgettable experiences. And may I not dare forget the conference’s magnificent talent, actress Damaris Chambers and jazz violinist, Kendall Isadore – TRUE God-given talent!

Damaris Chambers - Actress
The conference was built on a promise to bring forth positivity, good fortune, and offer a support system to those who are ready and eager to take a step away from fear and a step out the box!  Take a bow, Ladies.  Job well done!  Continue to empower women in your community and around the world!
